4-H and Youth Development
Hello, my name is
Trent Hollister. I was born in Commerce City, a suburb of Denver. I spent the
first seven years of my life cramped in a city dreaming about farming and
animals. My Dad was a computer programmer for the City and County of Denver but
always told stories about growing up on a farm. Both my grandparents lived on
farms until they moved to the big city to retire.
I spent most of my
free time with my Grandpa fishing or just driving around in the country.
Finally my eighth birthday brought the greatest present of all! We moved from
the City to what was then a little rural town of Eaton and lived on 85 acres of
hay and pasture. We did not wait long before we began to get rabbits, cows,
sheep and even chickens! Now that we had all of these animals, we needed
something to do with them so my brother and I joined 4-H. It has been a wild
ride for my parents ever since!
As an FFA member I received the highest
honors of a National FFA Degree for my sheep project. I competed at the
Colorado State Fair and National Western Stock Show with club lambs we raised.
I began the next stage of my life by attending Casper College in Wyoming where
I was a member of the Livestock Judging Team. I continued my passion for
judging by attending Oklahoma Panhandle State University where I competed on
the Livestock Judging Team. My passion for livestock and educating youth
propelled me into my Masters Degree in Extension Education from Colorado State
University.
While at CSU I met my wife and best friend Janelle and we
have been married for 6 years and counting. Upon graduating I decided it was
time to grow up and actually get a job! I was an Instructor and Livestock
Judging Coach at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne. It only took six
years for me to realize that my glass was only half full and decided to get
back to what started it all for me - 4-H!
I took the next great plunge
in my life and moved to Western Colorado and became the 4-H Agent for Montrose
and Ouray Counties. I really enjoy being able to share my passions with youth
and volunteers across the state.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time
with Janelle, family, trail rides, playing golf, fly fishing and, of course,
watching football. Janelle and I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 horses that we enjoy
spending time with every day. If you are ever on the Western Slope and need a
place to stay or just want to say 'hi', we've got a warm bed and great meal for
you! Just drop me a line.
