Area Extension Agent (4-H/Youth)
Golden Plains Area - Yuma County

Eldon Fisher, Area Extension AgentHello. My name is Eldon Fisher. I was born on September 4, 1948 in Wray, Colorado (Yuma County) to Loren and Cora Fisher and youngest of seven children. We had a dairy and lived on a dry-land wheat farm eleven miles southeast of Wray or five miles north of the historical site, Beecher Island.

I attended elementary, junior high and high school in Wray where I was active in extracurricular activities such as athletics, school plays, band, FFA and served as the senior class president. Outside of school I participated in my church youth group and was a member of 4-H in the Dry Willow Healthy Livestock 4-H Club.

My 4-H projects included Dairy, Swine, Woodworking, Forestry and Electricity. I was elected as the Yuma County 4-H Council President in 1966. Summers were busy with working on the farm, 4-H and playing baseball. After my father’s death in 1962, my mother and I continued to live on the farm until I graduated from high school in 1966. My mother moved to Wray that summer and I traveled and worked on a harvest crew going from Altus, Oklahoma to Pampa, Texas and north to New England, North Dakota.

In the fall of 1966 I entered college at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and graduated in 1971 with a BA degree in Physical Education and Industrial Arts. Upon completing college, I returned to Wray where I was employed by a trucking firm for approximately three years. At this time I became self-employed in the trucking business providing aggregate to local and area redi-mix plants and buying and selling agriculture products.

Eldon Fisher, Area Extension AgentIn March of 1980 I accepted employment with Colorado State University Cooperative Extension in the Golden Plains Area (Yuma County) as a Youth (4-H) Area Extension Agent and remain to this day. I completed a Master of Education degree in 1986 from Colorado State University.

My wife Edie and I were married in 1973. She is a graduate of Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska and a retired teacher of 33+ years in the Wray School system. We have two children, a son Marc and a daughter Andrea. Both Marc and Andrea are graduates of Wray High School and Chadron State College. Andrea recently completed her master’s degree in Business Administration and works and resides in Gering, Nebraska with her daughter Jaime. Marc’s BA degree included Elementary Education, Physical Education and Recreation and is employed by the US Forest Service. He was married in May of 2003. Marc and his wife Samantha (Sam) reside in Chadron where she completed her undergraduate degree in Family & Consumer Sciences with emphasis in Child Development in December of 2003 and is presently employed with Head Start. They have a son Parker and daughter Riah.
